Short Story Writing Contest

In celebration of National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo), MidPointe Library invites you to participate in a short story writing contest. The theme for the contest is: At one point(e). You may be as creative as you want in your interpretation of this theme.

There are three submission groups to encourage writers of different ages. Group 1: Students in grades 6-8; Group 2: Students in grades 9-12; Group 3: Adults (ages 18+)

  • Please note that 12th grade students who are 18 years of age or older may submit their writing in either the 9-12 grade or Adult category, but not both.

Typed entries can be submitted online through JotForm, by clicking here. Handwritten entries will also be accepted at all MidPointe Library locations. Typed submissions must be no longer than 3,000 words. Handwritten submissions must be no longer than 5 pages. All genres are welcome.

  • Format: To ensure judging is anonymous, please do not put your name on the pages of the story; include a separate cover page with the following:

  • Your name and title of the story.

  • Phone number and/or email address (must have at least one so we can contact you).

  • If you are a student, include your grade. If not, please just include “Adult” beneath your contact information.

  • Please include the title on the top of each page of the story.

  • Deadline: Hardcopy entries must be received at a MidPointe Library location before closing on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  Entries submitted online must be received by 11:59 p.m., November 30, 2022.

The entry chosen as the winner of each age group will be published on MidPointe Library's blog The Pointe, have their short story featured in the Library, and the author will receive a Library prize pack.
